With an approximate population of 15,000 residents, Great Falls is primarily a bedroom community for Washington D.C. Early. Originally a collection of farm settlements, it was unofficially known as Forestville but was re-named Great Falls in 1955. As a suburb of Washington, D.C., Great Falls is a part of the Washington Metropolitan Area and is served by two main roads - Virginia State Route 7 and Virginia State Route 193. The town has several green spaces for residents to use, including the nearby Great Falls Park, with spectacular waterfalls and fifteen miles of hiking trails that encompass the space. Native American petroglyphs, streams and a variety of activities from hiking to rock climbing are all part of the experience at the park.
