It's Virginia's third-most populated county and is comprised of towns, census-designated place and other unincorporated communities. Established in 1757 from Fairfax County, Western settlement began in Loudoun County in the 1720s and 1730s and by the time of the American Revolution, it was Virginia's most populous county. It was also rich in agriculture, and the county's contributions of grain to George Washington's Continental Army earned it the nickname "Breadbasket of the Revolution."
In 1962 the Washington Dulles International Airport was built and since then, Loudoun County has experienced a high-tech boom and rapid growth. Restaurants, shops and both urban and rural amenities are spread out throughout Loudoun County and nearby Harpers Ferry National Historical Park consists of almost 4,000 acres of natural beauty.
